The family patriarch, James Coleman, and his wife, Essie Mae, decide to abandon the life of sharecroppers in Alabama and risk making the journey north to give their children a chance for a better life. Their courage and passion compelled them to follow their heart’s desires, and they became the Songbirds that started a chain of life-altering events.

I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed your book about the three generations of the Coleman Family and each of their songbirds’ flight from their beginnings. As I said before, it’s a compelling read; I felt feelings throughout, conveyed by your gifted storytelling. In summary, WOW, Wiley!”

INSPIRATIONAL!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very well written – hard to put down as I enjoyed following the story of a family pursuing a better life. As an avid sports fan, I was moved knowing more about the inspirational battle between Spencer Haywood and the NBA. As a young boy living in Seattle I was a big fan, but wasn’t old enough to fully understand the influence he had in literally changing the game. A must read.

Just finished your novel and my mind is swimming with delight. Emotional experiences too lengthy and complex to describe are all running amuck in my head. I’ve a thousand questions, hundreds of thoughts, and most of all a million compliments to share. Well done, young man. Well done. And, keep looking up!
