Wiley and his siblings were born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Pershing High School, where as co-captain he played alongside great players, including Hall of Famer Spencer Haywood, NBA All-Star Ralph Simpson, and MLB star Marvin Lane, as they captured the Michigan High School State Basketball Championship.

After attending Trinidad State College, where he broke multiple assist records, he transferred to the University of Detroit. Then after two years he completed his college experience at Regis College (University).

He completed a graduate degree from the University of Washington while transitioning from college to a career, where he spent five years at Everett Community College in Everett, Washington, serving as Intramural & Leisure Sports Coordinator, athletic director, and head basketball coach.

His next stop was Phoenix, Arizona, where he was hired at South Mountain College as basketball coach and Director of Student Activities. He spent the remainder of his college tenure at GateWay Community College as a program director, adjunct faculty, and four years as men’s golf coach. In addition, he spent 30 years as a volunteer with Mario Bayne’s Career Concepts for Youth,Stay in School and Achieve program.

After retirement, Wiley worked with the George Gervin Prep Academy and the Spencer Haywood Foundation. In retirement, Wiley maintains an active Southern Arizona lifestyle. A daily fitness routine, a few days of golf, and time at the computer writing books.
